Ullen Sentalu

Ooo, it's rare for me to open a post with the face of my boyfriend's. There I give you the honor to enjoy his round and chubby cheeks before we get into today's post.

I've had this post laying in my draft for a year now, lol. Well, not exactly 365 days but I went to Ullen Sentalu last year. I was too busy preparing for the community service program that I couldn't even manage to write something about the trip on the blog. Because you guys know me. I'm not going to write a blog post with little writings to it. I think it's the only obstacle that I face whenever I want to post something. Either that, or I don't have any picture to add. I'm both visual and not. Deal with it.

I like trips to museums or art exhibitions. It's like zen mode, gives me a peace of mind. Because after a week full of responsibilities, all you need is a smol entertainment that makes you coming back to your sense. Ullen Sentalu is famous for its sloping stone wall that you can find in almost everyone's photo trip to Ullen Sentalu. The museum itself keeps a bounty of relics and paintings from the tale of two kingdoms, Jogja and Solo back in time when they were still led by a king. The collection inside the museum are personal collection of the owner of the museum himself. And the most important rules when you're visiting Ullen Sentalu, is you're not allowed to take photos when you're on the tour. Yes, it's a bit strict here in Ullen Sentalu. You'll go by batch every one hour and there will be a tour guide that'll explain you everything, take you to every section of the museum. That's what I like the most about Ullen Sentalu because nowadays people often forget to enjoy the inside of the museum itself because they're busy taking photos with the content. You do get to take pictures once you're on the end of the tour, which is in front of the famous sloping stone wall. That's like the only place you're allowed to since the wall itself was just a replica of the wall in certain temple in which I stupidly forget, sorry.

We were given this traditional herbal drink when taking a break halfway through the tour. You do get to take out your camera and snap some photos here too. They said the drink was the same drink that one of the princess there had been consuming during her lifetime to seem ageless. It tastes like wedang uwuh, it's so obvious that it contains a lot of traditional spices.

This is the famous sloping stone wall that I'm talking about. It represents the lack of knowledge of our young people nowadays about our own history, hence it's sloping down. There aren't many pictures I can show here but it was a very good visit indeed. Ullen Sentalu is located on Kaliurang highland and you can reach the place by basically anything since it has spacious parking lot. The entrance fee is IDR 50k for weekdays–it's a bit pricey but it's totally worth the money.

Sparkles

I didn't get to write as much as usual because I went on a community service program from my university for 45 days in Gunung Kidul last December. And there was no chance for me make a blog post during that time because there was no internet connection at all. I spent my new year there with my colleague and we got to witness all these fireworks at the beach. Quite a pleasant view that I'd rather enjoy with my boyfriend but hey, a duty is a duty. I didn't make any new year resolution because I always set the same goal every year; to be happy and content with what I already have. I always live a greedy life and I've grown unhappy over time. I get tired and I wish I weren't this competitive with myself. And although it's the same old goal for me every year, it's also something that I have miserably failed to achieve.

I'm now entering the last semester of my study but I'm pretty sure I still need to extend for a year to finish my thesis so I still have to spend another boring year in Jogja. There I said it, this city is getting boring. There's nothing left for me in this city that I can enjoy because I've seen some of my friends graduating one bye one and it gets me really hard. Aside the fact that I miss my parents, I also need to prepare for my own career in the future, getting jobs and helping out my parents. I'll be 22 this April and that means it's only 3 years away until I'm 25 and I remember I told myself I want to get married by the age of 25 lol. Why does time fly so fast?

I also applied for a workshop held by the British Council that took place in Edinburgh. I really wish I could make it through the online selection, I really need the chance. I doubt myself, but at least I still give myself a boost of confidence to submit the entry.

I lost my camera's memory card. That's like the saddest thing ever happened to me because it contains all of my community service program's documentation. Photos, videos, everything! And I lost it all of a sudden, I don't even know any possibilities of places I could've lost it. Thankfully I stored some of the photos on my LINE's album. These firework photos included. Anyway, how do you like them? They're so beautiful, right? I like taking photos of firework. They're so beautiful.

I decided to change my blog's title and some of its buttons because I'm bored with minimalism. When I looked at my blog few days ago, I realized I needed more colors than just black and white and grey. And then I went to Color Lover and browsed for rainbow palette and found one. I like how everything turns out because it's so cute and lively now. I chose the word 'Matari' which means 'the sun' in sanskrit language. I have developed a special connection with that name. And so I thought I had to put 'lucid dreams' to rest and change her into something much more refreshing and fun. So... yeah. I think that's pretty much it. This is just a random post before I start posting about my super late trip with my boyfriend to Ullen Sentalu, The Lost World, and another in depth cafe review of Cafe Brick that I've promised you before.

Qiansoto 'Shark Oil' Facial Mask Review

Okay please don't judge me for disappearing for a long time and showing up again suddenly writing about a topic I almost never wrote before on the blog. I'm trying to start taking care of my skin, especially the skin of my face, to minimize the usage of make-up everyday. I realize that deep inside, I'm still a lazy girl who couldn't sit tight in front of the mirror to draw my brow or applying concealers and mascara on a daily basis. So I thought, if my face had blemishes, maybe I should opt to make it look healthier by actually treating it carefully. Because I believe that glowing skin is not something that you can achieve through make-up. Well yeah, those highlighters can give you blinding shine but that's not the glow I'm talking about.

I have a confession: I have never applied any facial mask on my own before. So this will come off as a blunt story, hence the title of this series is called 'Beauty with dummy' :) This is my first facial mask ever, and this is a recommendation from my friend at university. She told me to get this mask after looking up close at my full-with-white-heads-and-black-heads face during class. I have a combination skin. It gets oily on the T-zone, but dry on the rest of the face. But thankfully I'm not one who needs to struggle with acne, even during my puberty. I also don't have freckles, I don't think many Asians do. I do get acne from time to time, but even when I do, it'll only be just one or two pops because I treat them carefully until they get dry and solid enough to be removed. I don't like popping my acne, that's gross, and unhygienic. But since I have pores bigger than horse's balls, dirt often get stuck inside, causing white heads and even black heads. I usually do my facial routine back in Bekasi. But this one, let me tell you, is worth the try.

I haven't really looked at all the variants from Qiansoto, but my friend specifically told me to get the shark oil one because that's the one that she has tried before and it works wonderfully on her. For you guys who live in Jogja, you can get them at Mutiara Cosmetic store for IDR 9.000/sheet. And don't worry, it's really that cheap because for one sheet you can store it for your next session up until probably three sessions? At least it's enough for three sessions for me. But I guess that depends on your face and how thick or thin you apply the mask. I don't like applying thick mask because it takes so much time to dry out.

The first time I used this mask, I applied it with my finger. But it got messy, I guess I'm just not trained enough lol. It got into my eye, across my eyebrow, and even my hair got stuck in the mask because I'm just that dumb. I don't have to repeat myself to tell you why I name this series with 'Beauty with dummy'. So for the next session that I did this evening, I used a blending brush that I usually use for my eyeshadow to apply the mask because it's better that way! And I don't care how dumb it looks, but I have my own way. My friend said that it'll get streaky but I don't really mind. I mean it's not for applying my foundation, it's for the facial mask so I have more control on applying it. But if you can get it using your finger then go ahead and use your finger. Whatever floats your boat.

I always forget to take a picture of the peel off, ugh. But what I'm saying here is my honest review. The mask works amazing on my skin. It does hurt a little when you peel it off your skin but that's to be expected. My white heads gradually removed one by one, and it's so satisfying when you look at the peeled mask and see how much you get. It doesn't remove all of them at once, and I suggest to prep your skin first with warm water to open your pores so it'll be easier to remove the white heads. After you clean all of the remaining mask on your face, don't forget to apply soothing gel or anything that will calm your skin from being pulled because the facial mask makes the skin very dry thus after I apply my mask, I always put my Nature Republic Aloe Vera Soothing Gel (or any soothing gel you have, basically) in the fridge to keep it cold and ready for finishing my routine. It gives a nice sensation for the skin after using the peel-off mask especially if it's set cold.

All in all, 8.5/10 from me. Definitely a product I will come back to.

What to watch: Coco

Back with me again, spilling out my thoughts about a certain movie I just watched just because. I miss doing reviews. I'm not sure that there are people out there who want to know about what I have in mind about certain things but hey, I'm not doing this for anyone else anyway so I'll just keep doing whatever I'm doing right now. So few weeks ago, but not so long ago, I went to watch Coco with my boyfriend because the movie was becoming the talk of the city, with everyone saying that it's highly recommended and will bring you tears. I didn't even know at first what Coco is all about, I didn't even know it was an animation movie, AND I didn't know it comes from Disney. I mean I've grown skeptical about Disney movies for the past two years now, like I'm starting to grow out of their story plots after Frozen came out. But then I entered the cinema and looked at the poster and it totally reminds me with The Book of Life. Mexican background story, skeletons, Day of The Death, music-loving boy happens to be born in a family that despises music, they're almost ripping off The Book of Life's story plot. As I looovveee The Book of Life, I was almost worried that their next franchise would be taken over by Disney because of Coco. But I don't know whether these two movies are related in their production or not.

So just like my any other posts about movies here in the blog, it's going to contain spoilers and probably meaningless ramblings. I'll just get straight to the point; I love it. I'm a sucker for family movies, and Coco is heavy with it. At first I wonder why it's named Coco, the grandmother of the main protagonist, and I get it during the end of the movie. My father used to leave me when I was a kid for work. He used to work for this company that placed him in cities across Indonesia and I only got to see him for barely a week each month. On bad days, I didn't even get to see him for two months straight. Until he realized that he had missed a lot of things from me and my brother growing up without him that he finally decided to resigned and looked for another job, one that didn't make him leave home for far too long. Coco has successfully made me cry a river, because it's exactly how it was with my father. There's a reason why my brother is not that close with my father, because their lack of communication, and how my father was never there during his best moments, they were so far away. Only after father moved back that we tried to fix everything. And I cried in the cinema. I couldn't even stop myself, because I can totally relate to it. Whatever your goal is in life, you should never forget your families. They're your roots, they're the very thing that keeps you on the ground.

Plot twists are amazing, I will not say what it is though, characters are deep, I personally love the story between Coco's parents even in the afterlife and how it ends beautifully. I cried for the second time when Coco's father can finally cross over the flower bridge to visit their family in the Land of The Living. It's very, very touching. Overall, I would say 10/10 man. It's totally worth the watch.

Cafe Brick

Hi, how's everyone doing? I miss blogging so much, but I've been busy with PLKH the last few weeks because that subject lasted the entire semester, but now that I've finished everything, I can really use some spare time before I move on to final exam, and then KKN. Ugh how I'm really not ready for KKN at all :( I've always been a city girl, and I hate not having access to clean water for bath because my skin is pretty sensitive and I get rash easily if the water's not clean :( But anyway, I went to this cafe with my boyfriend in the middle of the night for a quick coffee, and we were looking for a 24 hour coffee shop, since we've never been to Cafe Brick, and everyone in Jogja has, we decided to go there. It was almost 1 AM and we managed to order a lot of foods to satisfy our late night craving :p Okay, maybe just MY craving, not his. Sadly I wasn't prepared to review everything because I didn't bring my camera with me and I even wore pajamas and slippers here. I do miss taking pictures and reviewing cafe with my boyfriend tho :( Nowadays it's getting more like a sudden plan like "Hey let's go here" and "Oh ok I'm hungry anyway" so I never really prepared for everything :") I must say though, Cafe Brick is going to be my favorite place to be because it's not easy to find a cafe that offers you everything you love in one place, and they're open for 24/7 I mean ??? hello, that's like perfect!

I love this setup so much I mean they clutter this section but in a very neat way

I promise I'll come back soon to review this place in a proper way, my way. So stay tuned!
